It’s hard to ever imagine growing tired of a ferris wheel but one man may never want to see one again after breaking a world record by riding the fairground attraction for two days straight.

Clinton Shepherd, who is the manager of Chicago’s Navy Pier, set the new best time after being on the ride for 48 hours, eight minutes and 25 seconds.

The pier boss said achieving the record was ‘a very overwhelming experience’ that was made easier because of the support of friends, family and the city of Chicago.

Chicago’s mayor Rahm Emanuel was also proud of the achievement, he said: ‘This achievement highlights Navy Pier as the number one tourist attraction in the Midwest and serves as a great attraction as the city of Chicago honours the men and women of the armed forces.’

Mr Shepherd was allowed to have one five-minute break each hour by Guinness World Records.

He was able to stay awake throughout by playing videogames and watching James Bond and Batman movies.
