Typhoon Haiyan: Up To 10,000 Dead

Among the worst hit areas were the city of Tacloban in Leyte province, and neighbouring Samar island.

The Philippine government has so far only confirmed the deaths of 151 people, but hundreds of thousands have been displaced.

Typhoon Haiyan is thought to have been one of the strongest storms ever recorded, with gusts that reached 235mph causing waves as high as 15m, while up to 15.75 inches of rain fell in places. The storm is now heading towards Vietnam, where it is expected to make landfall on Monday.
