British Car Exports To China Surge

British car exports to China have increased five-fold since 2009, driven by a demand for luxury brands such as ROLLS-ROYCE and JAGUAR.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show 137,410 UK-built cars were exported to China in 2014 – up 14.5% on 2013 and from 19,417 in 2009.

British car exports to all destinations have increased by 54% since 2009 to 1.2 million vehicles in 2014, and the sector represented 11.2% of all British exports last year, a new record.

The rude health of the British motor industry has not escaped the notice of Prime Minister David Cameron, who praised the sector’s performance during a visit to a Rolls-Royce plant on Wednesday.

Gold Apple Watches Will Be Kept In Safes

Sources claim that pro jewelry-store level strong boxes will be fitted in Apple Stores ahead of the company’s first smartwatch going on public sale.

Speculation is still rife regarding how much exactly Apple’s premium gold-edition smart watch is going to cost.

And this revelation from insiders, who spoke to 9to5 Mac, suggests that the device could well be the most expensive product in Apple’s entire range.

As well as serious safes, fitted out with wireless chargers to keep the watches going, the gold edition of the Apple Watch will also be sold to potential clients differently, with an even bigger focus on individual service, underlining the watch’s premium status and customization options.

The Apple Watch is available in three variants (Watch, Sport’ and Edition) and in two different sizes. Prices in the US will start at $349 but it’s not clear if that price is for the stainless steel Watch edition or for the lightweight anodized aluminum Sport edition.

Combine a fish tank and a driverless car and what do you get? The WitStar, an autonomous electric vehicle from China’s GAC.

The concept car, which was on display at the Detroit auto show, also boasts a wooden floor and swish front seats that swivel around so the family can enjoy the sight of the fish all together — all while in transit.

“In southern China, water means fortune and wealth,” Tang Xiaojian, studio engineer for the ambitious Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group, told AFP. “So many people will have a fish tank in their home.

“So in this concept, the interior will feel like your living room at home.”

But asked the likelihood of the fish tank staying when the WitStar is one day produced, Tang said: “The final product — maybe not because you need to keep the water in the tank clean.”

AirBerlin Auctions Off Business Class Upgrades

2015/02/img_0700.jpg

AirBerlin is the first German airline to offer an auction for Business Class upgrades on long-haul flights.

AirBerlin is giving travelers a chance to experience all the comforts of business class at a reduced price.

Economy class customers can simply state how much they are willing to pay for an upgrade, and any unsold business class seats will go to the highest bidder.

Under the new AirBerlin Exquisite program, travelers who have purchased economy class tickets on long-haul flights are invited to submit their bids up until 72 hours before takeoff.

Available business class upgrades will then go to the highest bidders, who are informed of the change 12 hours before departure.

Naturally, while all bidders are required to enter their credit card information, only the winners of the auction are charged.

AirBerlin offers the new service exclusively on select long-haul flights where business class seats are still available.
